DJ Scottie is looking for a DJ Apprentice.

Over the years I have trained both club and mobile DJs to the tune of about a dozen people. Learning how to DJ isn't all that difficult. There are necessary technical skills you need to have, as well as equipment, a music library, and the rest is experience.

If you are interested in becoming a DJ, I am happy to train the right person, and help them bypass the "school of hard knocks", by learning from my experience. Granted there are books, and now DVDs out there that will offer the same kind of information, but nothing beats hands-on work.

I do have rules about accepting an apprentice. After the first get-acquainted night we both have the right to say "it's just not right" and walk away with no hard feelings. What I'm offering (for free) has a significant value in the marketplace, and I expect an apprentice mentality, which essentially is "working hard in exchange for gaining experience".

Here is what I require before you contact me:

» You must be at least 21.
» You must have already decided this is something you want to do... I'm not here to be your career counselor.
» You should have a fairly in-depth familiarity with contemporary dance, party, and retro music.
» You must be available at least one night a week, (day of the week will vary) from 8pm to 2am.
» You should visit and read every page on this site and be ready for an interview quiz.  :-)

Here is what you will get for your hard work:

» You will learn how to talk on the microphone. (The one defining difference between memorable and mediocre DJs.)
» You will learn how to program your music for the night, the crowd, or the client, depending on importance.)
» You will learn the nuances of mixing songs, from party segues to beat-matching, club style.
» You will learn how to manage your requests, play lists, e-mail address database, and DJ website.
» You will have access to my music library to enhance your music library.
» And a lot more... including getting paid. (Aren't you glad you read to the end!)
